Marine Diver in the Cowichan Valley - Cowichan Bay, Maple Bay, Genoa Bay, Ladysmith

Cowichan Bay, Maple Bay, Genoa Bay, Ladysmith, and Chemainus - mid-island moorage with a distinctive mix of classic wood boats, cruisers, and working fleet.

About diving in Cowichan Valley & Mid-Island

What makes Cowichan Valley & Mid-Island different.

The Cowichan Valley stretch of the east coast has some of the most interesting boat culture on Vancouver Island. Cowichan Bay itself has a concentration of classic wood boats and working vessels alongside modern cruisers, anchored by the Cowichan Bay Fisherman's Wharf and the nearby Bluenose and Dungeness moorages. Maple Bay Marina up the inlet has one of the larger cruising fleets north of Sidney.

Genoa Bay, just south of Maple Bay, hosts a community of liveaboards and long-term mooring holders. Further north, Ladysmith and Chemainus harbours host smaller fleets with good shelter and more affordable moorage than Sidney or Victoria.

We cover the whole Cowichan Valley coast regularly - typically weekly during the warm season. Hull cleaning, zinc work, mooring inspections, underwater inspections for the classic-boat fleet (where wooden hulls need specialist attention) - all part of our route.

FAQ

Cowichan Valley & Mid-Island questions.

Do you work Maple Bay Marina and Cowichan Bay?
Yes - both are on our regular weekly-or-better route. Maple Bay Marina's office knows us. At Cowichan Bay we work both Fisherman's Wharf slips and the private moorings in the bay.
Do you clean wooden hulls?
Yes, carefully. Wooden hulls need softer tools and awareness of caulked seams, butt joints, and older through-hull fittings. We adjust technique per vessel - happy to talk through what we'll do before the first cleaning.
How often should a boat in Cowichan Bay be cleaned?
Cowichan Bay itself has lower barnacle pressure than Victoria because of freshwater influence from the rivers, but slime and algae can build faster. Typical cadence: every 8-10 weeks in summer for the inner bay, closer to 6-8 weeks for boats at Maple Bay or Genoa Bay.
Do you service Ladysmith and Chemainus too?
Yes - Ladysmith Community Marina, Page Point, and Chemainus Municipal are all within our regular mid-island coverage.
