Marine Diver in Sooke & the West Shore - Pedder Bay, Sooke Basin, Becher Bay

Sooke, Pedder Bay, and Becher Bay sit at the mouth of Juan de Fuca, and boats there see conditions unlike anywhere else on southern Vancouver Island. We make the trip out regularly.

About diving in Sooke & the West Shore

What makes Sooke & the West Shore different.

Sooke and the West Shore are different from everywhere else on our route. You're right on the Strait of Juan de Fuca, with cold, clean, well-flushed water - and significantly less marine growth pressure than boats kept in Victoria Harbour or Cadboro Bay. That doesn't mean zero maintenance, but the cleaning cadence is typically longer.

The boats we work on out here lean heavily toward fishing vessels - salmon charter boats based at Pedder Bay Marina, private sport-fishers in Sooke Basin, and working boats in Becher Bay. Maintenance priorities are often different: less emphasis on racing slick, more on running-gear reliability and prop cleanliness for fuel economy over long days.

We travel to Sooke, Pedder Bay, and Becher Bay regularly but not daily - if your boat lives out here, calling ahead a few days makes scheduling easier. No separate travel fees within the area.

FAQ

Sooke & the West Shore questions.

How often do boats in Sooke need hull cleaning?
Less often than Victoria-based boats. The colder strait water slows growth. We typically recommend every 10-12 weeks through summer and every 4-6 months in winter for boats kept in Sooke Basin or Pedder Bay Marina.
Do you charge a travel fee to Sooke?
No separate travel fee. Sooke, Pedder Bay, and Becher Bay are part of our regular service area. Scheduling is easier if you call a few days ahead since we don't visit the West Shore every single day.
Can you work boats in Becher Bay?
Yes - both at Cheanuh Marina and on private moorings in the bay. We check conditions and tide timing before heading out since the entrance can be lively in stronger wind.
Do you service charter and commercial fishing boats?
Regularly. Sooke and Pedder Bay's charter fleet is a significant part of our West Shore work. We coordinate around trip schedules so we're not pulling boats out of rotation during the season.
